Macclesfield’s Ladies continue to flourish

By Paul Jakubowski

This season has seen the Women’s team continue its progress and development with three convincing wins against Rochdale, Stoke and Eccles in the first half of the season. Macclesfield are currently placed 3rd in the Allianz IWS North (West), which is a Development League.

Confidence in the side is high and being the only Inner Warrior side to make round 3 of the Papa John’s National Junior Cup was a highlight of the first half of the season. Although defeated by Leigh it was evident that the team had made significant progress since September. The New Year brings fixtures against Rochdale and Eccles who currently sit in second and first places in the league. Julia Ashford who joined the team twelve months ago commented: “I feel that this season we’ve gone from strength to strength as a team. We’ve all grown enormously in confidence and ability”. Julia who plays in the back-row continued: “I’ve loved every second of it, and can’t wait to see what the future brings for the team.”

January will also be an opportunity for the Coaches to give several new players their debuts, a focus in the second half of the season will be to maintain the team’s progress with the intention of entering National Challenge 3 league next season.

The team is also looking to recruit more players through Inner Warrior events which promote the development of the Women’s game; the next event is on Tuesday 16th January at 7.00pm, details of which will be on the Club’s social media channels. The Women’s next fixture is away at Rochdale on Saturday 13th January.
