Preview Macclesfield Women v Rochdale Valkyries

Macclesfield welcome Rochdale Valkyries to Priory Park on Saturday for a return contest, the sides last met at the beginning of January when Macclesfield put together their best performance of the season, so far, for a hard-fought away win. The Rochdale team are a physical side with some skilful players, and the home side will need to be defensively at their best on Saturday.

In their last outing against Eccles the game plan didn’t quite work with handling errors frustrating the Coaches. However, tries from Pip Wyer, Jazz Wilson, and a conversion from Mel Bramley sealed a win. The emphasis in training this week has been on core skills and line speed in defence; their enthusiasm to learn and apply was evident in Tuesday night’s training.

A few absences through injury and unavailability allow the Coaches to try out players in new positions. Mandy Keough drops into the second row allowing Hannah Worsley to start at prop. Whilst January’s player of the month Louisa Mackintosh moves to the blind side, Julia Ashford retains her position at eight in the absence of the injured Tiegan Shaw. In the backs Katie Mccree moves to fullback and Tanni Whalley starts on the wing.

Kick-off is at 2.00pm so grab some food, a drink and support the team as they go for three wins in a row.

Only one result to 'round up' today, but it's a crucial 5 points for the 1st XV, who are now top of the table after Rossendale lost over at Stockport. Here Tommy Taylor (Defence Coach) gives his views on the match. The lads now head into a well-deserved break, and face Blackburn up at Ramsgreave Drive in a fortnight. Next weekend it’s all the Guinness Men's Six Nations action on the screens down at Priory Park. 🍻 🏉 tinyurl.com/MRUTV ... See MoreSee Less
