Anselmians Preview

By David Wilkinson

After a convincing away, win back in November, some may see this Priory Park clash as being academic; they would be very wrong. Anselmians has only lost once in their last five games, scoring 123 points and conceding 98, the last five games for Macclesfield has resulted in 200 for and 91 against. But without doubt there has been a good change in Anselmians’ form, possibly linking to the introduction of a handful of players joining from Caldy. What is for certain is that Macclesfield will not be taking the challenge lightly. Given their position, 3-points ahead of Rossendale, at the top of the league, it is now considered by many, as their title to lose; which puts them directly in the firing-line of any team wanting to knock them off their perch.

Tommy Taylor has a watchful eye as the boys go through their plays for the challenge of Anselmians on Saturday

I spoke to Assistant Head Coach, Tommy Taylor, after Thursday night’s session, these were some of his thoughts: “We’ve talked a lot about, what has happened since the Rossendale game, the boys faltered the following week, it was a real off-game against Kendal, but we learnt a lot from that, and put in a very good performance against Blackburn. It’s now all about the last 3 games starting with Anselmians on Saturday, it was a very windy day over there, earlier in the season, so there’s not a lot to learn from that. We know that they have been bolstered by some players from Caldy, and have a good 10 that controls the game well, and they have a good back row. But it’s about our performance; we’ve asked the players to spend the next 48 hours considering what they can do personally; what we are looking for is a professional performance that delivers our game. We have a very strong set of backs out, Harry Blackwell is away, so Terence moves back inside to 12, Jamie Harrison returns to the wing, and John O’Donnell comes onto the bench after playing for the Great Britain Rugby League Police team in Australia”.

It promises to be another enthralling encounter at Priory Park, please come and give your vocal support and give the boys an extra boost as they continue their fight for the title. Kick-off is 3.00pm, the team for the day is: 1. Dan Percival, 2. Ollie Longmore, 3. Samir Tahraoui, 4. Rhys Davies, 5. Harry Harding, 6. Elliot Alston 7. Tom Burden, 8. James Oliver – Captain, 9. Dan Martin, 10. Tom Morton, 11. Jamie Harrison, 12. Terence Babarinsa, 13. Harry Oliver, 14. Sam Adu, 15. Tom Jennings, 16. James Cross, 17. Phil Laing, 18. John O’Donnell.
