After an impressive performance at Sale FC 1861 on Sunday resulting in a 15 all draw, the women’s team move onto Glossop this Saturday. In the corresponding match at Priory Park in October, Macclesfield won convincingly 54 -26. Glossop got the better of Ormskirk at the weekend winning 20 – 15. Flyhalf Bex Ward commented “Sunday was a magnificent game to be part of, a really great advert for the women’s league; pace, skill, teamwork and composure from both teams. Glossop will offer a very different style of game, and it will be a great test for our pack to go up against a strong mauling side. Hopefully we can build a great platform to release our quick and capable back line”
Newbigging keeping Sales defence at arms length
Training has had an emphasis on fun and recovery this week. Some elements around tackle technique for the newer players and work at the breakdown where Sale had the edge over Macclesfield. Selection will be interesting with several players unavailable or out with long-term injuries. The team will miss Ceri Hart who has played exceptionally well all season. Ceri flew out to Brisbane, after Sunday’s match, to work there for the next three months. Coach Paul Jakubowski commented on training this week “Last Sunday was a very physical encounter as well as being mentally draining so it’s been important to train lightly, have some fun and recharge before Saturday’s game. We’ve worked on some technical areas in training. The team are full of confidence, but will not be taking Glossop lightly as they are a well organised and physical team, the team are still in the mix to win the league and aware of the challenges they will face on Saturday”
