There have been many contests against the Cornishmen, off and on since 2011, or perhaps even earlier. I’m not aware of the stats for and against, but I suspect they favour Redruth. Clive Kirkham recalls a trip down to Redruth in 2011, whilst he can’t recall the score, we think Macc won. He remembers the post match in a rough pub, singing Islands in the Stream (badly) with a local lass. There was a play-off game in 2013 that Redruth won 33 – 14, and last year’s match at the Recreation Ground finished Redruth 34, Macclesfield 19. Home advantage can count a lot, and there’s no crowd more partisan than that of Redruth’s Hell Fire Corner. But I doubt many will be making the 640-mile round trip.
Macclesfield have a couple of injuries but still field a strong team, with the welcome return of John O’Donnell at Full Back. Macclesfield will need to cement their place above the drop-zone, whilst Redruth look for a third-place finish. It should be another exciting contest with everything to play for. Get there early to cheer Captain James Oliver onto the field, playing his 100th game for Macclesfield 1st team. James leaves nothing on the field, please get behind him and the team at every opportunity. Our match-day sponsors are Search and More.
