MALCOLM FOX R.I.P.

It`s my sad duty to announce the passing of another member of the Macclesfield Rugby Club Family – Malcolm Fox. Malcolm passed away peacefully at home recently in his favourite armchair whilst watching rugby on the t.v.

Malcolm arrived in Macclesfield from Lancaster in the late 1960`s and joined the South Park Surgery as a G.P. and became involved with the Rugby Club in the late 1970`s at the old Tytherington ground, when sons Robert and David joined the then Mini Maccs.

Malcolm then became an avid supporter of the club and attended many of the first team games, enjoying the pre match lunches along with great friends Jerry Howarth, Dave Holden and Phil Jones.

During our heady days in National League 1, it was a requirement to have a qualified Doctor at every home game and Malcolm was persuaded by fellow G.P. Rick Usher to take his turn pitch side for The Blues in return for a couple of pints once his duties were complete.

Malcolm continued to support the club and was always happy to have a chat over a beer in the clubhouse after the game, and only stopped coming late last year once health issues prevented his attendance. Indeed, I was lucky enough to have a chat with Malcolm and Robert at his last visit to the club back in October – always a gentleman and always supportive of a club he never actually played rugby for.

Our sincere condolences to Malcolm’s wife Val, sons Robert and David and to his grandchildren Paul and Lexi.

The Club will be holding a minute`s applause prior to kick off at the last home game of the season on April 26th and the funeral will be held the previous day 2.00pm April 25th at Sutton St. James. There will then be a cremation for family only, followed by a celebration of Malcolm`s life at the Masonic Hall, Riseley Street Macclesfield, where all of his friends are invited to attend.
