Good news – The club’s financial position has improved

Members will be familiar with my messages to you all over the last two years about the serious financial challenges that the club has faced over recent seasons. With the Financial AGM scheduled for Wednesday evening at 7pm, I wanted to share some excellent news with all members ahead of the meeting.

Your Executive Committee is very pleased to share that despite a very significant financial loss in the financial year ending in June 2024, the financial results for this year ending 30th June 2025 show a return to profit for Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club Limited.

The importance of maintaining a financially sustainable club for the present, and especially the future, cannot be overstated. These results come after two years of hard work, driving costs down while doing our level best to increase sales and income.  It is thanks to everyone understanding the need to work as a “OneClub” team and support your club that we have managed to improve our financial position.

I want to thank all of you who have supported events, home matches and pre-match lunches, as well as drinking in the bars to boost our income.  The Executive Committee recognises the significant increase in income from events and hirings of the club coordinated by our General Manager, Andy Appleyard, as well as the increase in companies partnering with the club as they wish to be associated with our success on the pitch. On the pitch, the senior coaching team, working closely with Matt Coleridge, the Director of rugby, have worked incredibly hard to make sure that the rugby costs stayed within budget. Last season, you may remember the first team men’s players took a considerable pay cut whilst playing in the West league. Thank you for your loyalty.

It has been a challenging two years, and your Executive team have improved the governance and systems that support our financial operations, and this has also significantly contributed to our results through improved management information and budgeting.  I must stress that it is the responsibility of all of us as members of Macclesfield Rugby to support our club and build towards even greater success on and off the field of play to ensure that we remain a successful and sustainable rugby club.
