It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Barry Day. Barry passed away earlier this week at the age of 83. Barry had been a long-standing member, joining the club in the 1960`s after taking up a job at what was then ICI in Macclesfield, despite living in the Oldham area. Barry played in the 2nd row for most teams in the club, including the first XV during the 70`s and captained the 2nd XV for a couple of seasons, but Barry will probably be remembered best for his time in the Stags, for whom he played for over many seasons, even though he still lived in Oldham (there’s commitment for you!)
Following retirement from a long playing career, Barry continued to support the club and was rewarded with the honour of becoming Club President from 1994-1998, and was later deservedly made an Honorary Life Member for his services to the club.
A lovely man, a wonderful supporter and benefactor of the club, Barry will be sorely missed around Priory Park. Details of Barry`s funeral will be put on the website once known.
