The Women’s team took a break from training at the rugby club last week and ventured into the Bollin Valley to work on their fitness. The team ran this session during last year’s preseason around Macclesfield Forest and were keen to repeat the experience. Starting with a steady run into the valley, they engaged in interval training, fartlek, which translates to ‘speed play’ in Swedish, the emphasis being on ‘play’ as well as some fun relays. The conditions were warm and muggy, and the squad worked hard, particularly on the hill sprints. Coach Paul Jakubowski commented: “It was a tough session in muggy conditions, like last year we wanted a break from traditional preseason training, whilst developing team spirit and having some fun! The evening again proved to be a great success, especially rehydrating in the Admiral Rodney at the end, and the players are keen to repeat the session over the summer!

The team is keen to recruit new players as they prepare for a second season in NC2; training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.45pm. We welcome players returning from university that are looking for a club to play for, or anyone wanting to try a new sport. Contact @MacclesfieldWomensRugby on Facebook or Instagram.
