Women’s team look to kickstart second half of the season
It’s been a frustrating start to 2025 for the women’s team as the wintry weather has caused disruption to our away fixtures at Glossop and Wirral. The coaches and players are looking to put January and its cancellations behind them and kick on into a busy February with fixtures firstly away against Ormskirk and Oldershaw (home) before potentially a league deciding fixture away at Sale FC on the 23rd. Winger Annie James on the break in fixtures. “After a long six weeks off, I think the team is really looking forward to getting back out on the pitch to put on a proper Macc performance!” The women’s team will also be hosting the pre match lunch before the First XV game against Clifton the week before, another first for this section of the club.
Ormskirk were able to play last Sunday going down 10 -0 at Wirral, this will be a first meeting ever between Macclesfield and the home side. Ormskirk currently lies seventh in the league. Coach Paul Jakubowski commented “Despite the recent weather conditions the team have not missed a training session and have had two sessions with the second XV which have proved to be highly beneficial allowing the squad to train at a high tempo. Both sessions have proved to be very enjoyable and competitive and it’s great to have the support of a senior side in aiding our preparations. The team have been frustrated with the cancellations and are excited as we finally look to kick start the second half of the season”.

Last Saturday the team management were interviewed at the sponsors lunch, enabling them to discuss the development of the side over the last eighteen months, recruitment, training, competing in a league and the sides aspirations for the future.
