The big freeze forced last weeks away trip to Glossop to be called off and the team were left frustrated as a result. The teams enthusiasm for training was evident in both sessions this week and the training with the men’s second xv on Thursday night enabled the team to train at an unaccustomed pace and defend against a well organised and structured team who attacked at pace that the team are not used to. Mandy Keough commented “After an extra-long Christmas break with the weather dampening last weekend’s fixture, the girls are all switched on and raring to get back on the pitch! Saturday is where we set our stall for the second half of the season hoping to continue and build on what we we’ve achieved so far! We are all excited to see if we can finish as strong as we started if not stronger!”
Wirral currently lie 6th in the NC3 North (South) League, their last outing being a defeat against Liverpool Collegiate, who Macclesfield defeated in December. Coach Si Dempsey reflected ” Getting back into the physical and mental rhythm after a break can take some time. The festive period and weather often disrupts routines and players might feel a bit rusty, however once the team shakes off the cobwebs and finds their reconnection and flow again, hopefully that will quickly regain the sharpness that’s required to compete against a strong and committed Wirral team” Saturday is a unique occasion as both the seconds and women’s team play at Wirral on Saturday with both Kick offs at 2.00pm. So, with no home matches at home this Saturday, both sides would welcome some travelling support.
