I have some wonderfully exciting news for the whole of Macclesfield Rugby Club, the Town and the wider community.
After 2 years of hard work we can now confirm that we have exchanged contracts with HB Holding on the sale of the land and we can now progress with the regeneration of Priory Park. We have already received a positive response from Cheshire East Planning authority who are keen for us to create a community rugby club.
A broad outline of what we are proposing:
Sell a small amount of land at the front of the club to HB Holding who will develop a retirement village, the proceeds of the sale will be used to
- Install a state of the art 4G pitch replacing the main pitch
- Completely redevelop the clubhouse
- Improve the car park
- Create an events area beyond the mound
- Improve the quality of the outer pitches
- Purchase new grounds equipment and build new grounds sheds
- Have a Padel facility within the grounds
- Have a gym facility within the grounds
As you can see rather a lot of work to do.
Exchanging contracts on a commercial development of this scale isn’t like exchanging on a house purchase, completion of the transaction could be c18 months away. What happens next is
- Detailed planning application submitted
- All the necessary ecological & ground surveys commissioned
- Architect to re-design the clubhouse
- Discussions with the football foundation regarding the new pitch usage
All this will go on behind the scenes and we will update you when we have progress.
Myself & Bob have been approached by several members who were unable to attend the first meeting in April where we unpacked the project, we will be holding a second meeting in September to cascade the proposal and update you on progress, date to be confirmed.
In the meantime the club continues to function as normal, with the new season is only 4 weeks away.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me, or Bob, directly either by phone or on email.

Thanks,
Rob
